The dwellers of Geneva Camp are not considered Bangladeshi but as "stranded" Pakistanis. As such they are subject to considerable prejudice. Although 35 years have passed, their citizenship status and access to basic rights remain unresolved. The Pakistan government have neglected them and have shown no interest to "repatriate" them as once promised. Bangladesh is also reluctant to speedily resolve their plight.

In 116 camps about 1,60,000 people live in the most horrendous conditions and poverty. The new generation are Bangladeshi by birth but are not recognised as such officially or culturally. They are refugees almost by birth! Yet despite this rejection,  the allegiance of the young generation is clear to see in this video and they observe Bangladesh's victory and independence day with patriotic fervour.
