Banyasanta:
Photo: Naymuzzaman PrinceBanyasanta is one of the oldest and lively brothels in Bangladesh, placed on the bank of Poshur River at Mongla port city, Khulna. But during my visit, already it has died as like as Mongla port. It was famous for its geographical position, business and entertainments as well. A majority client was foreigners, particularly sailors and businessmen. I am surprised to see the present life and socio-economical conditions of sex workers. They are living with extreme poverty, insecurity and in HIV high risk including children. Within massive negativities, I fell relax to see their love, affections among and within family. Still now if friend work can not earn in a day, share the food and earning with commitment. The experiences were dim by discovering treacherous boarders between villages and brothels. They are untouchable, neglected; and are not recognized as human being to villagers; do not allow or join the sex workers’ in social proceedings, including funeral. The resident carefully avoids, and goes one village to another, spends long time and path. But don’t go nearby. When I was going to Banyansanta, in the way a number of fishermen said me, “Okhanae Jaien na, Okhanae Para ” ( don’t go there, there is brothel). However, they are living an isolated world. Including government, nobody hear their story with parental heart. They want to be free; they want to live as human being....

Invisible industry:
Photo: Naymuzzaman PrinceChittagong is the second biggest arena for the ship breaking industry, is continuing without sound from the beginning. The industry is a red zone for human rights violation particularly labors rights, unsafe and unhealthy toxic environment and human norms practices. In early stage the ship-owner generally send the ship to Bangladesh, Brazil, India, and Philippines like yards as these areas health, environment laws are not so tight, at the same time labors are desperate to work with low salary. During making this photo story, I lived with the labor; I ate their food and become one as well. The main purpose was to see their life of this marginalized with eyes. I was astonished, they work more than 12 houses physical work, they become old more than their ages for hard work and malnutrition. They don’t care toxic chemical environment, everyday break oil trunk without fear. However they live nearby the ship in slum like house where public entrance is prohibited. The workers said, small accident is daily incidents here. Death case also here dismisses with little plenty. However 30,000 ship breakers are breaking more than 700 ships per year to fulfill the national requirement of steel with life risk.

Conversion:
Photo: Naymuzzaman PrinceReligion conversion percentage is high in Bangladeshi indigenous communities. Mostly these minority communities convert with hope to get economical solvency, social recognition rather than spiritual peace. Majihorm (village chief) Shusantu santal also was converted into christen with hope. He says, “I was Santal, but my children by born christen; as I am converted. The missionary, if I become Christian, good luck will come! I also believed! But nothing happen until today. However, my children now go to missionary school. They pray. I don’t know what type change will be in their life...
